File attachments

You can attach files to the messages in a conversation — screenshots, PDFs, spreadsheets, short audio or video clips, and more. Attachments belong to the conversation, are isolated to your workspace, and are served through secure, short-lived links.

You attach files straight from the composer in the inbox using the paperclip button, and files in a thread appear as download cards. This page describes the rules the product enforces; the inbox page covers the day-to-day flow.

How attaching a file works

Sending a file is a two-step flow:

  1. Upload the file(s) against the conversation. They are stored as pending attachments — saved, but not yet tied to any message.
  2. Send a message that references those uploads. That binds the files to the message, and they appear in the thread.

You can upload a single file or several at once.

You can only attach files to a conversation you are allowed to reply to — the assigned agent, a supervisor, or an administrator. A conversation in another workspace simply does not exist for you. See Roles & permissions.

What you can upload

The limits below are the platform defaults. Your workspace can be configured to be stricter (a smaller size cap, fewer files, or a narrower type list), but never more permissive.

  • Up to 10 files in a single upload.
  • Up to 25 MB per file.
  • Allowed file types:
    • Images — JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, SVG
    • Documents — PDF, plain text, CSV, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Archives — ZIP
    • Audio — MP3, OGG, WAV
    • Video — MP4, WebM

File-type safety

Each file is checked by its actual detected type, not its name. Renaming a program to photo.png will not get it past the allowlist — the real content has to be an allowed type. Files outside the list, or over the size cap, are rejected with a clear validation error.

Downloading an attachment

When you open an attachment, ConnectWiz hands you a temporary, signed link to the file and sends you straight to it. The link expires after a few minutes, and the underlying storage location is never exposed. You can download a file only if you can view its conversation; an attachment from another workspace is invisible.
